Decision:

Agreed to award Mr Frank Zemke the Honorary Freedom of the Royal Borough.

Minutes:

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Denise Hyland, moved that Mr Frank Zemke, former Chief Executive of Reinickendorf Council in Berlin,  be awarded the Freedom of the Royal Borough of Greenwich for his eminent services to the Borough.  In moving the recommendation Councillor Hyland reminded the Council of the instrumental role that Mr Zemke played, and continues to play, in the Borough’s twinning with Reinickendorf and that this partnership had resulted in greater understanding and cultural enrichment.

The nomination was seconded by Councillor Peter Brooks who stated that should Mr Zemke be awarded the Freedom of the Borough it was the intention to present the framed certificate to him in person at the weekend.

Councillor Steve Offord spoke in support of the nomination and who reminded the Council of the origin of the twinning with Reinickendorf and the enduring benefits to both Boroughs.  Councillor Offord also paid tribute to the fine contribution of Klaus Merken to town twinning, who sadly died last month.

Resolved-

That Mr Frank Zemke, former Chief Executive of Reinickendorf Council in Berlin, be awarded the Honorary Freedom of the Royal Borough.
